Nordic pine vs solid oak interiors & RAL aluminium exteriors
Around 80% of alu-clad windows installed in Ireland use finger-jointed, knot-free Scandinavian slow-grown redwood pine on the inside (either factory-painted in white/grey or finished in a clear natural UV lacquer), while around 20% upgrade to solid European oak (+18% to 25%).
How knot-free engineered pine prevents resin bleed, when solid oak is worth the extra budget, and how exterior RAL powder-coating works.

How finger-jointed laminated timber stops warping and resin bleed
Anyone who remembers 1970s pine windows bleeding sticky yellow resin knots through white paint will appreciate how modern Scandinavian joinery is engineered:
- Heartwood slow-grown Nordic pine: Harvested from cold-climate FSC/PEFC forests where trees grow slowly with tight, dense growth rings.
- 100% knot removal & finger-jointing: Every knot and resin pocket is optically scanned and cut out before the clear timber lengths are finger-jointed and laminated into 3-ply or 4-ply opposing-grain sections. Because the grain directions oppose each other, the sash cannot twist or bow.
- Water-based microporous spray finishes: Applied in robotic factory spray booths before the glass and outer aluminium cladding are fitted, giving a furniture-grade finish.
Polyester powder-coated RAL and anodised exterior skins
On the outside, the extruded aluminium cladding is stove-enamelled in any classic RAL colour (most commonly RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, RAL 9005 Jet Black, RAL 7039 Quartz Grey, RAL 7032 Pebble Grey or Bronze Anodised) in a matt 30% gloss or fine-textured granite finish. For homes within 5 km of the sea, specify Qualicoat Seaside marine pre-treatment.

Questions homeowners & self-builders ask
Can I paint over clear-lacquered pine or painted pine alu-clad windows years later?
Yes — that is one of the best advantages of real wood inside. After 15 or 20 years, you can lightly key the interior timber with fine sandpaper and brush on two coats of water-based acrylic joinery paint in any colour you like.
Does clear-lacquered Nordic pine turn orange in sunlight?
Modern Scandinavian factories add a UV-blocking pigment (or subtle 5% white-wash tint) to the clear water-based lacquer, which stops raw pine yellowing in south-facing rooms and keeps the pale Nordic timber tone.
